1. Humor. I have spent decades in the comedy business, from stand-up to televised comedy shows and I can tell you that nothing works better than laughter to bring happiness and intimacy to a relationship. Keeping a sense of humor and making sure you have opportunities to laugh together is one sure way to keep your marriage full of spice. Additionally, it is a documented fact that laughter strengthens your immune system, relieves stress, gives you energy and renewed strength to tackle all of your problems.
3. Get rid of the mobile devices. Turn off your smartphones, disconnect from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube and give each other the undivided attention that you deserve. Social network channels have become enormously popular and they definitely can serve a good purpose, but the intimacy of speaking to someone face to face, looking into each other’s eyes, truly listening and hearing what the other is saying is lost with these devices. Yet, these are the keys to building intimacy and trust and maintaining a strong marriage.
4. Be spontaneous. Everything does not have to be planned. Allow yourselves to take a drive, visit the zoo, head to the beach, or take in a movie, something fun—all on the spur of the moment.
